Birth Language

Language is Important 👍

Using your chosen birth language can really influence how you're feeling during labour and birth. Be sure to let those around you know what terminology you're most comfortable with. Remember though, don't get too hung up on it or feel offended if someone gets it wrong! We're all learning to adapt.

Maybe you prefer to be called a birthing

person or birthing parents, or refer to your uterus contracting as surges, or tightenings?

Whatever words you prefer, let your birthing partner/midwife/carers know!

Think which words make you feel the most calm, most empowered and most relaxed.

Learning new ways to say things can often make us view them in a different way.
